 Moving back to the land of palm trees & sunshine.

It's been a while...

Prehistoric Rhubarb, been cookin' up a ton of it.
Weekend finds from the roadside flea market.
Boy Scout sewing kit, Uncle Henry pocket knife, Army patch.
Dinner on the porch, sometimes a full day of gardening does
not make for a fresh veggie dinner. Much too busy to cook-we
had a beautiful pea shoot & romaine salad though.

Drove a ways North to pick up our lovely lady red hens. 

Spied an abandoned train on the way.

Home to eat mass amounts of pea shoots & roasted asparagus with tomatoes.

House is finally warm enough for fermentation. Made sauerkraut &  kimchi & kombucha.

Also set some dandelion wine to ferment.

Sometimes I move so fast I can't take photographs.

FORAGE

Went to visit some friends at Tweefontein Herb Farm yesterday for a mushroom hunting hike. While we came up empty handed on the morels we did bask in the morning sun on the front porch & take a nice hike. At home I found a huge patch of fiddleheads & stinging nettle in the forest. I cooked up the fiddleheads for dinner with butter and garlic, over brown rice pasta. The were delicious-and still about two more weeks of foraging for them as well!

We picked up fresh eggs from the farm-been really into hard boiled lately.
Snack from the other day & toasted sesames in my favorite stoneware dish.

Spent the past two days weeding & tilling & building.
Feeling good about it...
